Sado Kanzo (licorice) Festival

Hundreds of thousands of Tobishima-kanzo (a kind of licorice, an orange-colored flower of the lily family) bloom all over Onogame. The way they grow in crowds is said to be foremost in Japan, and Onogame is famous as one of the leading scenic spots found in the Sea of Japan. Oni-daiko (Sado's unique classical performance in which demons dance) and other local public entertainments are presented against the background of the wide blue ocean and a carpet of Tobishima-kanzo.
Gold Mine Festival

This event marks the opening of the summer festival season of Sado Island. The procession of Okesa dancers throughout the town, the outdoor performance of Kodo (the group of Japanese drum artists based on Sado) and the fireworks display ― the festival with history is held with Aikawa's main street as its center.
Hakusanmaru Festival

The sail-hoisting event is held on the Hakusanmaru, Japan's first large sengokubune that was restored completely to the original state. A sengokubune means a junk with a capacity for one thousand koku of rice (1koku = 180 liters). Besides the show of the local performing arts, special local products are for sale.
Akadomari Port Festival

The main event is the Sea of Japan Sumo Tournament, in which wrestlers fight in the ring floating in the sea. The procession of folk dancers, the fireworks display in the cool of a summer evening, and the like―it is a festival the eve of which is no less enjoyable.

The international arts festival in which Kodo, the group of Japanese-drum artists based on Sado and performing all over the world, pursues a new culture of the earth against the background of Sado's rich nature. Drums and music of the world and the beautiful nature reverberate with each other and produce music of the earth.
Ogi Port Festival

The festival which marks the end of the summer festival season. The great fireworks display, Ogi-okesa dance, the huge lantern show, the local Shinto-related performances and traditional public entertainments are presented all together. This is the festival that can be enjoyed only in the Ogi district.
