Earth Celebration means "the festival of the earth." With human beings' fundamental act "beating" as its theme, Kodo has invited to Sado artists in folk music or performing arts and cultured people whom the drum artists have met on their travels around the world, and Kodo not only explores the possiblities of art that unites the enviroment with humans but also introduces the appeals of Sado's traditional culture and tries to promote its development.
The festival is filled with various events and attractions, such as the outdoor concerts (Shiroyama Concerts), participatory workshops that enable you to expereince drumming and dancing, and "fringes," free performances of music and dance.
Shiroyama Park, where the main events "Shiroyama Concerts" are held, transforms itself into a natural theater surrounded by beautiful green whose stage effects are created by a skyful of stars, evening breezes and the singing of insects. The stage on which the reverberation of Kodo's drums and the sound of folk music of various parts of the world are in fusion is a supreme space that fits right in with "the festival of the earth."
